Free as a bird

We’re going to present you three videos by Philippe Facquet. They will help you identify many birds around our cottage.

First of all the blue tits who play in front of the balcony. But let us show you a little teaser:

It’s just like in the chalet near the Miroir village’s church.
If you’re lucky, you’ll see bullfinches, so beautiful! You can also watch goldfinches at Villaroger and the Planay even in winter when you picnic.

First video: easy birds!

The first four birds are usually flying around the cottage during winter: robins, blue and coal tits, and wrens.

Goldfinches (6’29), usually at the foot of the trees, are so funny just like tits.
Starlings are famous singers (18′)
Woodpeckers are not discreet, you won’t miss them, at list their call! (20’11)
Jays will notify with their cry your arrival to the other animals. (20’35)
Many crows fly above La Rosière’s buildings: jackdaw(22’18) or big crow (23’05) Corvine birds of the next video?
Falcons (25’22) hunt for example around the lac sans fond. If it’s a kresrel, you’ll understand what he was named after… Isn’t it a witch laughing?!
Buzzards hunt in front of the balcony, couples or families(26’02).
Gift of the day: a redstart nest (11′) and a falcon nest (28′)

Second video, the more discreets, be patient…

Wouldn’t it be the goldcrest that we hear when we hike in the woods? Check it out (0,26′) and (1′) ? According to LPO, looks like a goldcrest!

Chiffchaff (8’59) looks like a wood warbler… Watch them at the foot of the pines along the Eucherts, alittle lemon green bird, not to mistake for wrens.
Hoopoes (19’05) might come for nesting according to LPO Rhône Alpes.
So, above La Rosière, rook (22’12) or raven (22’42)?
Birds of prey above the Isère river? Not a black kite (29’37) for sure in winter! (They have a M-shaped tail.) A royal eagle? A bearded vulture?
Gift of the dat: french children songs!
“Alouette, gentille alouette” – Lark, nice lark – (5’12)
“Chante rossignol chante” – Sing, robin, sing – (10’50)
“Dans la forêt lointaine, on entend le coucou” – In the faraway woods, we can hear the cuckoo – (21’16)

Third video about the migratories, hold on tight your binoculars…

Alpine accentor (1’21), the star at Fort de la Redoute during winter, watches each crumb falling of your sandwich while you picnic in front of the Mont-Blanc.
Rupestris (10’12) is already back in february and her ballet in front of the balcony at sunset is magic!
Prey birds to observe: red kite at summer!

Here’s a sum-up in pictures of the more common birds in the Michel Pellicier’s blog “Tarentaise Vanoise.

Last but not least, the great guide atlas des oiseaux nicheurs de Rhône-Alpes – Nesting birds in Alps area’s atlas by LPO. Get your binoculars!
