Saint Bernard’s statue

Published by ecombelles.admin on

The Little Saint Bernard Pass links the Tarentaise (in France), to the Aoste Valley (in Italia). A statue of Saint Bernard exorcising the mountain welcomes the travellers coming from La Rosière.

Bernard of Menthon, future patron saint of the Alps, and patron saint of mountaineering, founded the hospice at the pass during the XIth century. The building was an opportune protection for pilgrims against bad weather and bad encounter. Will you find which original visitor was welcomed there during a violent snowstorm?

Now that summer is there, let’s enjoy the road to the pass.

There, besides the alpine garden (see future post), you’ll find many hiking paths, starting at the back of the hospice.
